From the Window collection - I think this is one of the most still paintings that I’ve painted. The stretcher frame I used has a bit of a back story. Twenty one years ago I took a portrait painting class in Italy. I was there five months and it probably saved my life, as has been done so many times at this point. I recently found the canvases tucked away and as artists in need of materials tend to do, decided to reuse the stretcher bars. The painted portraits came off as well as the nails, which I’ve always loved the look of. I restretched it with Belgian linen, painted a new painting and then hammered back in the original nails.
