In the months leading up to this piece, I was thinking deeply about our energetic body. The plants become stand-ins for the chakra system running from the root all the way up to the crown. The root allows us to be grounded, stable and secure in ourselves which the crown allows for inspiration and connection to the Divine. This inspiration gets processed into expression. In my own process of expression, the brain is holding thousands upon thousands of images gained from observation and stored away. It is able to offer far more than we give it credit, especially in this age of technology. As I start painting, I let the brush move across the panel, not controlling but allowing for things to appear. No outside images are used as I harness the power of imagination that is available from within. I step back and start to see patterns and images, honing in on the subtle messages coming forward. The cosmos flowers were the first to appear. Cosmos, related to the sunflowers, open up to the sun and to the cosmos in a similar fashion but with a willowy flow that moves with the wind. They are flexible and adapt easily to their environment. They open the pathways to expression and are connected to the planet mercury, the planet of communication. Here, as we imagine grounding into the earth, we are invited to open to the wisdom of the cosmos, distilling this wisdom into expression that feeds the whole collective body as well as the environment that holds it.
